FAQs

  • What is google Analytics?

Google Analytics is the web analytics service that Google offers to track and report website traffic. When you have accurate data about the traffic and your website visitors, it’s easier to improve your content and strategy which should lead to better conversions and user experience.

With Google Analytics, you can see things like your best and worst performing pages, if visitors are searching on mobile or desktop, where they’re based geographically and much more. You can also track users with tracking tags, and collect and analyse data that will give you insights about their behaviour. More importantly, you can see the stages in your customer journey funnel and where they’re dropping off or where they’re converting.

You can integrate your Google Adwords account and Google Search Console, and add tracking codes to tag and track any external advertising, social media and campaigns you have running.

  • Why use Google Analytics?

It’s regarded as the bare minimum for analytics reporting as Google still has the lion’s share of search volume around the world, and it’s what we use as the starting point for acquiring performance metrics that we display on our platform.

Some of the best Google Analytics metrics to track include:

    • Users – The amount of visitors that viewed your site within a given time frame.
    • Bounce Rate – The percentage of single-page visits.
    • Device Usage – The percentage of users coming to your site via different sources.

We can discuss this further during your consultation with us so you can make an informed decision.

  • What are the advantages of Google Analytics?

Identify your target audience and segment your visitors
You think you know your audience, but do you really? Get the right insights to identify and segment your customers/visitors so you can target them more effectively.

    Go mobile
See how many people interact with your site on a mobile device. It might be worth considering a mobile site, or simply mobile optimise your current site.

    Know your traffic sources
View acquisition data to see what drove your customers to your site. Was it paid or organic, social media or shared link?

    Get precise reports
Customise your website’s reports by creating different filters. From locations to age segments, you can view accurate data for your marketing campaigns.

  • How does Google Analytics work?

To get started, you need to install a tracking code on each page of your website. This code will start to collect data once a user visits your site. It will get information about the user’s device and behaviour, then send it to Google Analytics servers to await processing.

Every time a user views a new page on your site, the code will obtain new details about the user’s activity. When Google receives enough data, it will start assessing every piece of data as a hit or an interaction. The process can take from 4 to 24 hours.

Google will determine if the user is new or returning, as well as the amount of time they spent on your site. It will also connect all the pages they’ve visited and implement the configuration settings you’ve set for the data. After processing your data, it will be stored in a database, making it available to your account. You can access the report through the Google Analytics interface.

  • How will DigitalMaas improve your Google Analytics setup?

When you run an audit for your website on DigitalMaas.com, we use technology to check the code of your website for the Google Analytics tag to see if it’s installed. If we detect it, we compare the setup to best practice and make suggestions to optimise your account if you need it. Otherwise, we’ll create an account for you and install its code on your website. We’ll also set up the sync to get your data to populate the graphs in the metrics section of our platform. We recommend our platform as it makes it easier to find the information you’re looking for than having to dig through the many layers of Google Analytics.

Once Google Analytics is created and optimised, and the data sync is complete, you’ll have full visibility of your website’s key metrics. You’ll get all the information you need to make sound decisions about your website’s content and performance, and identify which strategies are working and which ones need improvement.

  • Is Google Webmaster Tools the same as Google Search Console?

Google Webmaster Tools is what Google Search Console used to be called. The idea behind changing the name was to get more users. Google found that the “webmaster” title wasn’t inclusive enough for all its users who range from novice weekender search fans to certified webmasters. So after 10 years of being called Webmaster Tools, Google changed the name to Search Console to hopefully not scare away any non-webmasters.

  • How to add and verify your website in Google Search Console?

For Google to know which property to monitor, you must first add and verify its ownership on Search Console. A property represents the site or application that you manage. Follow the simple steps below on how you can access your property’s data below:

    1. Sign-in or create a Google Account here: https://myaccount.google.com/
    2. Enter the complete and exact address of the property you want to add here: https://search.google.com/search-console/welcome
    3. It will ask you to verify the ownership of the property. There are five ways on how you prove that you an authorized user and we will guide you through the process of each method.

    HTML File
This method requires the owner to have an access to your website’s root directory and they are able to upload files. Download the HTML file and upload it to the specified location. Go back to Google Search Console and hit the Verify button. Remember not to remove the file if you want to stay verified.

    HTML Tag
Copy the code provided and paste it to the <Head> section on the homepage of your website before the first <body> section. Once the code has been published, you can now go back to Search Console and check if it is now verified.

    Google Analytics
Through this method, Google Search Console requires you to use the global site tag gtag.js tracking code. Make sure that you are logged in to your Google Analytics account and have the permission to edit for the Google Analytics property. Click the Verify button to claim ownership.

    Google Tag Manager
If you have properly set-up a Google Tag Manager on your website and used a container snippet, you can hit to Verify button and it will automatically find the code for you. Remember to keep the code and not remove it so you will always stay verified.

    Domain Name Provider
Using this method will ask you for your domain name provider and follow the steps required depending on the domain registrar.

  • How to add other variations of your website and set your preferred domain?

If your website has other domain name variations (e.g. https and www), you also need to add them on your Search Console. Remember, Google view these variations as individual properties and should be added to your Search Console separately. You can repeat the verification steps for the following properties that your website have:

Once you have added these 4 versions, you now have to choose which domain you prefer for the indexing of your web pages to appear in the search results.

After you have set this up, you can now use 301s to redirect the traffic to the preferred domain from your non-preferred so search engines and visitors will recognise the version you have chosen.

    Submit a crawlable sitemap
We’ll upload the correct sitemap so the search bots can crawl your site for better search results.

You don’t necessarily want your whole website to be crawlable. We’ll implement the right robots.txt files to manage this for you so old pages or test pages aren’t crawlable.
